Nicholas Fite - Hajime no Ippo: The Fighting!

    1.
Click image for larger version Name:	image.png Views:	0 Size:	748.6 KB ID:	2871
    Shot Size: Medium close-up
Reason: Can't see anything below the chest. This shot shows how intimidating Ippo's bullies are, by shooting this closely they look even bigger. They fill the screen, showing the physical difference between them.
    Framing: Triple Shot
Reason: Shows 3 people. Emphasizes that Ippo is out numbered. The 2 people behind the one ahead are largely unimportant beyond that, and have no real defined personality. By placing them behind the one in green, it shows that he's the leader and more important.
    Angle: Low
Reason: We can see the underside of their noses. Shows how Ippo views them. They stand over him and look down on him physically, but socially as well due to his occupation and size.

    2.
Click image for larger version Name:	image.png Views:	0 Size:	1.15 MB ID:	2872
    Shot Size: Full
Reason: We can see Ippo's full body. Ippo is finding out that he is a powerful puncher, and would be a good boxer. By making it a full shot we can see how he put's his entire body into the punch, making it more powerful. It also allows us to see what this does to the bag, and how it goes flying.
    Framing: Single Shot
Reason: Only Show's Ippo. Shows how he is individually powerful.
    Angle: Low
Reason: We can see the underside of his legs and shoes. Makes him seem larger then life. It further emphasizes how powerful he is.

    3.
Click image for larger version Name:	image.png Views:	0 Size:	1.17 MB ID:	2906
    Shot Size: Wide
Reason: We can see a wide landscape of where he is training. Ippo is tasked with something seemingly impossible. By having a wide shot, we can see how he is training by himself and how time has passed since he was given the assignment. It also makes Ippo feel small, as he hasn't reached his goal yet.
    Framing: Crowd Shot
Reason: Ippo is main focus, but all characters are largely unrecognizable. By showing people riding past him as he trains, we can see how he is singularly focused on his task, and not distracted by what most students are. It further shows how he is training alone.
    Angle: High
Reason: We can see the tops of their heads. Helps in making Ippo feel small.

    4.
Click image for larger version Name:	image.png Views:	0 Size:	698.1 KB ID:	2915
    Shot Size: Full
Reason: We can see the characters from their heads to their shoes. Ippo is taking his first devastating punch, and loosing the match. By making it a full we can see the difference between both of their body language. Just by looking at their feet, we can see that Miyata (left) is confident and Ippo is inexperienced.
    Framing: Double
Reason: Shows the 2 in full contact.
    Angle: Low
Reason: We cam see the underside of their legs and arms. Helps with the idea of Ippo falling to the floor.

    5.
Click image for larger version Name:	image.png Views:	0 Size:	720.4 KB ID:	2941
    Shot Size: Close Up
Reason: We can't see below his shoulders. This is the first time his coach is feeling his punch. By using a close up we can see he's pleasently surprised by how powerful his punch is.
    Framing: Single
Reason: We only see the coach. The most import thing in this shot is the coach looking at his mitt, so he's all that needs to be shown.
    Angle: Low
Reason: We can see the underside of the coach's nose. Allows for a better angle to see both the face and the mitt.

    6.
Click image for larger version Name:	image.png Views:	0 Size:	857.4 KB ID:	2952
    Shot Size: Medium
Reason: We can't see below the stomach. Allows us to see the coach's and Ippo's Body Language. We can see that the coach is confident and comfortable, while Ippo is still nervous. It also allows us to see what they are doing with their hands.
    Framing: Double
Reason: We can only see these 2 in the shot. The shot is about these 2, so they both need to be there. Adding other characters would get in the way.
    Angle: Low
Reason: We can see the underside of the character's nose. Allows for more expressive features to be shown, and you get the real sense that the coach is coming from under Ippo.

    7.
Click image for larger version Name:	image.png Views:	0 Size:	784.5 KB ID:	2980
    Shot Size: Medium Full Shot
Reason: We see most of the character, but not their shoes. Ippo is seeing his rivals father (a former pro boxer) for the first time and then gets called to do more training. We can see the movement and placement of all the characters in the scene. Oddly, it cuts it off at the ankles which usually doesn't work too well.
    Framing: Dirty Triple
Reason: The coaches glove covers part of the 3 characters we're concerned about. Gives an idea of what Ippo is about to do.
    Angle: Low
Reason: Gives a sense of the geometry of the room.

    8.
Click image for larger version Name:	image.png Views:	0 Size:	1,007.8 KB ID:	2986
    Shot Size: Full Shot
Reason: We can see Ippo and the judge of the fight from their head to their toes. Ippo just won a match against the person he originally lost against in a less then glorious manner. Showing his full body lets us see the confusion and confliction he has about the fight.
    Framing: Dirty Double.
Reason: We can see Ippo and the judge but he's blocked by Miyata who's on the ground from loosing. By framing it like this, we can see that Ippo won and that Miyata was knocked down for one of the first time in the show.
    Angle: Low
Reason: We can see the undersides of Ippo and the judge's nose. It's shot like this to give an idea of what Miyata sees, and shows us how Ippo has gotten stronger from when we first met him.

    9.
Click image for larger version Name:	image.png Views:	0 Size:	822.1 KB ID:	2991
    Shot Size: Medium Full Shot
Reason: We can't see past the knees of Ippo. It let's us see the see how confident Ippo is now.
    Framing: Dirty Single
Reason: Ippo is covered by a guy he sent flying. He's trying to become a certified boxer, and is finding his fight easy. By framing it like this, we can both see a confident Ippo, and a display of his strength.
    Angle: Low
Reason: We can see the underside of Ippo's nose. Makes Ippo seem bigger.

    10.
Click image for larger version Name:	image.png Views:	0 Size:	976.4 KB ID:	2993
    Shot Size: Wide
Reason: We have a pulled back view of the environment. Ippo just won his debut match. It let's us see him small, implying that Ippo is still the small kid we knew at the beginning.
    Framing: Crowd
Reason: We see a crowd of people. It shows that Ippo has won the admiration of the people.
    Angle: High
Reason: we can see the tops of people head. Helps with making Ippo seem smaller.

            • Shot Size -- Medium-Full Shot (Cowboy Shot):
            • The director chose this shot to show how intimidating and dangerous Megatron is by emphasizing his arm mounted cannon. This size was also chosen to show Megatron's emotional state as he is clearly amused.
            • Shot Framing -- Clean Single/Point of View:
The director chose this framing to show Megatron through the eyes of a helpless Autobot, where all we can see is him and the cannon as it is aimed at the camera.
            • Shot Angle -- Low Angle/"Dutch Tilt":
Similarly, the director chose this shot to show the difference in power dynamics. The Autobot is on the ground defeated while Megatron towers over him victorious and about to finish him. A slight dutch tilt was added to give the feeling of injustice and terror as the audience looks up at Megatron.

            • Shot Size -- Establishing Shot:
The director chose this size to show the change in time since the battle began and to show the devastation caused to the environment by war.
            • Shot Framing -- Dirty Single:
The director chose this framing to bring our attention to the ravaged Autobot city as though we are an outsider, not involved but still somewhat affected.
            • Shot Angle -- Eye-Level:
The director chose this straight on angle to allow the audience to feel as though we are looking on as an equal able to sympathize in wake of the destruction.

            • Shot Size -- Medium-Full Shot (Cowboy Shot):
This size was chosen by the director to display the climax of a one-on-one battle where the villain has the hero at gun-point.
            • Shot Framing -- Two-Shot:
This framing was chosen by the director to show the contrast in power of these characters. The hero, who lost his power in the battle, is on his knees towards the bottom of the screen. The merciless Villain stands tall towards the top of the frame with a gun aimed at the defeated hero.
            • Shot Angle -- Low Angle:
This angle was chosen by the director to emphasize the loss in the hero's power. Since the Audience is on the hero's side, we look up at the villain as the hero is lower than him.

            • Shot Size -- Insert Shot:
The director chose this size to make known the importance of "The Matrix" by zooming in and allowing the audience to follow it.
            • Shot Framing -- Point of View:
The director chose this framing to create an effect of "looking" at the Matrix in a way that those present would be.
            • Shot Angle -- Low Angle:
The director chose this angle to give the impression of "looking up" at the matrix to highlight its importance to the narrative.

            • Shot Size -- Medium Shot:
The medium shot was chosen by the director because of the closeness to the characters as they show emotion during Optimus Prime's final seconds.
            • Shot Framing -- Three Shot:
The three-shot was chosen by the director to show how many people are closely affected by Optimus' passing while still maintaining the connection to these characters without over-crowding.
            • Shot Angle -- Low Angle/Point of View:
The director chose this angle to show the emotion in the room through Optimus Prime's eyes with his perception of the people present. The angle is Low to show how Optimus is weakened and peering up towards his fellow Autobots.

            • Shot Size -- Medium Close Up Shot:
The director chose this size to create a feeling of closeness to Optimus. We are close enough to see the light in his eyes go out and his head fall as his life is lost.
            • Shot Framing -- Clean Single:
The director chose this framing to emphasize the toll of war and death with a clean, uninterrupted shot framing.
            • Shot Angle -- High Angle/"Dutch Tilt":
The High Angle was chosen to give the impression of looking down at someone on their death bed or rosary, like a final goodbye. The Dutch Tilt was added to exhibit grief, dramatize the unfairness in death, and introduce the loss in balance the world has with this passing.

            • Shot Size -- Medium Shot:
The director chose this size to show the character and emotion of Daniel while still showing who he's grieving over by having Optimus' hand in scene like a prop. This is considered a medium shot since Optimus' hand is like a prop supporting a display of Daniel's character and connection with Optimus.
            • Shot Framing -- Dirty Single:
The director chose to make this a dirty single shot because the main focus in the scene is Daniel grieving while being obscured by the hand of the one he mourns. The connection between Daniel and Optimus is displayed, and the tragedy of Optimus' passing is further highlighted.
            • Shot Angle -- Eye-Level:
The director chose an Eye-Level view so that the audience can "see eye-to-eye" with Daniel during his mourning. The Eye Level view was chosen to let the audience understand Daniel, we are equals and all deal with grief at some point.

            • Shot Size -- Wide Shot:
The Wide Shot was chosen by the director to show how small the main characters (top left) are in their new location. The shot also establishes how they are at the foot of "higher beings."
            • Shot Framing -- Crowd Shot:
The director chose the crowd shot to display how busy the room is. The shot does show the Judge (right) as the closest character to the screen almost to emphasize his importance.
            • Shot Angle -- High Angle:
This High Angle was chosen by the director to make the captured main characters look like ants in comparison to the corrupt judge sitting on a high throne above everyone else in the room.

            • Shot Size -- Full Shot:
The director chose this shot to acknowledge the dramatic size difference of Unicron as he stands defiantly on the planet Cybertron, plunging his feet into the planets surface.
            • Shot Framing -- Clean Single:
The director clearly chose this shot to establish the big threat to Cybertron and all of transformer kind with a clear, full view of Unicron.
            • Shot Angle -- Low Angle:
The angle was chosen to be low by the director to further emphasize how massive Unicron is by making the viewers themselves feel smaller.

            • Shot Size -- Master Shot:
            • The director chose this shot to establish the characters in scene and display the stark differences in: power, morals, and allegiance.
            • Shot Framing -- Over the Shoulder (One + Two Shot):
This framing was chosen by the director to show the physical perspective and introduce the idea that these characters are far different, with a major gap in space between them. This framing also gives us a "stand off" type of look.
            • Shot Angle -- Low Angle:
The director wanted the audience to feel where Hotrod was in strength compared to Galvatron so he used a Low Angle. This angle really puts the nail in the coffin when it comes to power differences.

              1. Full body shot: the full body shot was chosen to show the state in which the Sung Jin-woo is in, both physically and emotionally

Single shot(clean): the single shot was used to show how helpless the character is at this point, how they have no help to call for

Eye level: as the camera pans out it stays at eye level with the character

              2. Extreme close up: the extreme close up was used to create the feeling of death utilizing Sung Jin-Woo’s bloodshot eyes

Single shot(clean): using the single shot to show that sung Jin-woo has no help in this situation.

Slight low angle: this angle was used to show vulnerability, not power in this point

              3. Wide shot: i would say this is a wide shot because it is showing the sung jin-woo as well as the environment around him. Unlike an establishing shot, this shit is focused on his place within the environment rather than establishing him as a character

Single shot (dirty): without showing the statues face, but showing it swinging the sword down helps convey the impending doom sung Jin-woo is in.

High angle: the high angle was used for its visceral thrill

              4. Insert shot: the insert shot was used in this scene to show the gruesome beating sung Jin-woo is enduring at the hands of the statues, splattering blood next to the flames after inserting the shots

POV(cameraman): the insert shot here was taken from the camera persons perspective

Low angle: i believe the lower angle was used to show how defeated sung Jin-woo is

              5. Medium shot: the shot is close enough to show both characters in an emotional state while still driving home the fact that they are bowing down

Two shot: you see both faces of the characters in the shot

Eye level: the shot was taken eye level to the characters although they are bowing down

              6. Extreme Close Up: the extreme close up shot was used in this shot to show how sung Jin-woo is losing faith in the situation. While not completely defeated, his eyes show the pain he is enduring

Single shot clean: using the single shot to show that sung Jin-woo has no help in this situation.

Eye level: using eye level shows that sung jin-woo hasn’t completely given up. He is still thinking of different ways to escape

              7. Medium Full (Cowboy) Shot: The shot allows for us to see them powerless in the face of danger. All three characters have a similar expression of fear on their face

Three shot: this shot gives the viewer a great view at the main protagonist in the current state, as well as how others see him. Not being the strongest, he has given the best information to the others to help them survive up til this point

Low angle: i believe a low angle shot was used to show they are powerless in this situation

              8. Medium Close up: the medium close up shot was used to show how confident the character is going into the situation.

Single shot (clean): this was used to show the character as “heroic”, as though they have the answer to the situation

Slightly lower than eye level: I believe the angle was to show the character as more heroic than those around him who were too scared to move

              9. Wide shot: used to show the characters reaction to what just happened to their friend in relation to how close they are to the action. Using this shot shows that they are close to dying themselves

Crowd shot: showing the crowds reaction enhances the feelings of fear and danger within the situation.

Low angle: low angle was used to show how vulnerable the characters are in relation to the statue. They are small enough to be squished like bugs

              10. Master shot: was the shot after opening the scene. Helps show the characters, the situation they’re in, how many characters are in the scene, and what type of relationship each one shares

Over the shoulder: using an over the shoulder shot helps convey the scale between the characters vs the statue

Low angle: a low angle shot was used to show how small the people are in comparison to the statue

                          • Shot Size: Medium Full Shot: This is a medium-full shot to showcase each character with their prop and to showcase their body language in this scene.
                          • Shot Frame: Four Shot: This is a Four-shot because these are the Four Cardinal Heros of this world and each character is important to the audience and the story, that's why we can see all of their faces.
                          • Shot Angle: Low Angle: In this moment specifically, the low angle is to show these characters are currently taking control of the situation and are demanding to be sent home.

                          • Shot Size: Wide Shot: This scene was chosen as a wide shot to showcase the characters in this environment and their relationship with each other and the room, all without showing their faces.
                          • Shot Frame: Crowd Shot: This was chosen as a crowd shot because it shows the other side characters within the room while also focusing on the main characters in the center. It also shows how small in numbers the Four Cardinal Heros are in comparison to the royal family and their guards.
                          • Shot Angle: High Angle: It was chosen to be a high angle because the audience must now understand that the Four Cardinal Heros do not have the upper hand here and aren't in power.

                          • Shot Size: Wide Shot: This was chosen to be a wide shot to showcase the shield hero as the main focal point, showing his emotional state in his body language and facial expression, while also showing his relationship and the extreme disadvantage he's in against the characters and the environment around him.
                          • Shot Frame: Crowd Shot: The crowd shot was chosen here to emphasize that the shield hero is outnumbered in this situation by both the guards surrounding him and the guards in the background of the scene.
                          • Shot Angle: Dutch Angle: This scene is at a dutch angle to imply to the audience of the shield hero's confusion and vulnerability in his current situation.

                          • Shot Size: Four Shot: This was designed to be a four-shot to show the three characters bunched together in comparison to the creature in the background seemingly coming toward them. It also showcases how the parents are shielding the child.
                          • Shot Frame: Over The Shoulder: It was designed as an over-the-shoulder shot to focus on the creature coming toward the small family.
                          • Shot Angle: Low Angle: A low angle was chosen for this shot to make the family feel vulnerable compared to the incoming creature. With the child the closest to the shot and at this angle, the audience will associate more with the child and feel just how vulnerable she may feel.

                          • Shot Size: Extreme Close-Up: This was an extreme close-up scene to showcase that the shield hero is looking intently at something.
                          • Shot Frame: Single Shot: We can only see the shield hero as his facial expression is the only important factor in this scene.
                          • Shot Angle: High Angle: The high angle was chosen to emphasize the visceral thrill of the shield hero's gaze.

                          • Shot Size: Insert Shot: This was chosen as an insert shot to show the importance of this hourglass timer within this world and to the audience.
                          • Shot Frame: Point of View: It was chosen as a POV shot to showcase how small the Shield Hero is compared to this world-ending hourglass.
                          • Shot Angle: Low Angle: This shot was chosen as a low angle to convey the hourglass's extreme power and influence within this world, as this hourglass counts down the time before the world has its calamity war.

It also showcases them in their environment all together in the same room and who is injured
                          • Shot Frame: Three Shot: This was chosen as a Three shot because all the characters are important in this scene, showcasing how one is injured, the little girl is happy for giving the gift (she just gave the gem to the Shield Hero), and the Shield Hero observing the gem he was just given. Each character has information necessary for this scene and for upcoming scenes.
                          • Shot Angle: High Angle: This shot was chosen as a high angle to provide Information about the Narrative of the story.

                          • Shot Size: Close-Up: This shot was chosen as a close-up to see that the girl is sleeping heavily, but also to show the change in time as the shadows change and the setting goes from sunrise to daytime.
                          • Shot Frame: Single Shot/Clean: It was chosen as a single/clean shot as the only important part in this scene is the girl sleeping
                          • Shot Angle: High Angle: It's at a high angle to show she's a bit vulnerable as she sleeps but also to show the visceral thrill of her sleeping.

This is a full shot of the character. This is used as to introduce the audience to his design as it is the first episode and allows the audience to view his expression
This is a clean single. This is to emphasize his presence as he is currently in a conversation with someone else but has posed a question deeply relevant to himself.
This is at a low angle and a dutch tilt. This low angle is used to show power as he poses a question that catches the other person off guard. The dutch tilt is to create unease, as he asked a question that nearly exposes the person he is talking to.

This is an extreme close up. This is done to emphasize the drama in the scene and the emotion the character is feeling, as he makes a huge revelation during this scene.
This is a clean single. This is used to emphasize the conflict with the character, as it pertains to his own personal feelings and goals.
This is at eye level and a dutch tilt. The eye level is to meet his eyes and show his emotion in them and the dutch tilt is to create unease, as he realizes something about himself that he does not like.

This is a close up shot. This is to emphasize to power he wields and how he has unconsciously made a very crucial decision regarding it.
This is a clean single. This is to show his overwhelming presence in both power and importance in the scene, as he has transformed into something not quite him.
This is at eye level. This is used for the audience to see his face head on and see that he isn't the same person just a couple minutes ago.

This is a medium shot. This is so that we are able to see the character facing us clearly while still getting his impact on the surroundings, mainly the other person and the wall.
This is a dirty single. This is to show the power dynamic between these two, as the character whose face we can see has finally gotten the upper hand in the fight.
This is at a low angle. This was done to show the power of the character facing, placing the camera somewhat near where the other character's head is as they're slammed into the wall.

This is a full shot. This is done so that the audience can assess the character's condition after his battle; His uniform's tattered and his head is down.
This is a clean single. This is done in order to highlight the character's desolation after the conflict has finished and how he is no longer with his brother or his opponent in prior scenes.
This is at a high angle. This is emphasize the character's helplessness, as he had won the fight but his opponent has kidnapped and ran away with his brother.

This is a full shot. This is done to emphasize the emptiness surrounding him, as a person was just next to him and had gotten up to leave.
Tthis is a clean single. Again, done to emphasize the character's isolation.
This is at a low angle. Done to fuel the sense of disempowerment of the character, as he is left alone.

This is a wide shot. This is done to show the space between the characters and how the person on the left has begun to encroach onto the rest of the space.
This is a dirty single and is over the shoulder. The character facing the camera is not the focus nor is he in power. This also shrouds the left character in mystery.
This is at a high angle. This angle simultaneously empowers the character on the left and disempowers the character on the right, showcasing the massive gap in power.

This is a master/wide shot. This is done to highlight the new and foreign setting the character in the middle is suddenly placed in.
This is a group shot and is done in order to fit the character into the new scenario he finds himself in.
This is at a high angle. This is done as this illusion was created to break the character in the middle, whilst his opponent watches over him metaphorically to ensure he snaps.

This is a medium shot, done in order to get a look at the character's newfound expression while still allowing for his body performance as cruel and uncaring (for the moment) to shine through.
This is a clean single, and was done in this way in order for the audience to focus directly on his emotions and feelings, as it is his shift mental state here that was the point of the scene.
This is at a low angle and a POV shot, and was done in order to highlight the characters newfound power and cruelty and also serves as a pov of the person grovelling beneath him.

This is a close up shot. This is so we can clearly see his face, as he had regained his hope and compassion which changed his physical appearance slightly.
This is a clean single. This is done to show how he has defeated his opponent but to also again show the regained joy in his heart.
This is a low angle. This is done to emphasize the current power he wields but also the meekness of it compared to the ensuing chaos surrounding him.
