  • Exercise #12-FPS Animation Analysis

    • Look for game inspiration
    • Find a gun that is similar to the gun your character is using
      • Overwatch – All Weapons, weapon animations
      • Valorant, Apex Legends, Battlefield, Call of Duty, Halo
    • Just an aim & fire!
    • Crop the video to just the Idle, Aim and Fire, post a Syncsketch link and answer the follow questions:
    How is the gun positioned during the aim position?
    How does the gun fire? Is there a lot of recoil? Minimal recoil?
    Analyze the transition in and out of the normal idle. Is the gun weight apparent? Arcs obvious?

    The gun is position towards the center of the screen during the aim, when the gun fires, there is a lot of recoil except for the overwatch one, the gun weight is apparent and the arcs are easy to identify and are quick.

      How is the gun positioned during the aim position? its placed with the scope matching the cross hairs.
      How does the gun fire? Is there a lot of recoil? Minimal recoil? it has lot of recoil upward with slight left and right movements.
      Analyze the transition in and out of the normal idle. Is the gun weight apparent? Arcs obvious? yes since its a lighter carbine. there is overshoot when returning to idle.​

              Crossbow is propped up and centered, somewhat aimed upwards rather than straight ahead

              The strain from the strings give it a really strong recoil, somewhat even pulling it forward a bit

              Weight for the aim in is a tad slower than a lot of the other guns, helping it with the weight​

                - The gun is brought closer to the body when aiming

                How does the gun fire? Is there a lot of recoil? Minimal recoil?
                - The gun has a small recoil when it fires, and has a small bounce back when it comes out of aiming.

                Analyze the transition in and out of the normal idle. Is the gun weight apparent? Arcs obvious?​
                - The gun weight is apparent for this character it seems like of light, since they are able to hold it with one hand.

                  - The gun is positioned dead center of the screen, it's also almost perfectly symmetrical, but exactly perfect.
                  - When aiming in the center there is a decent amount of recoil but not a lot and usually goes back to the original aiming position quickly. When hip firing (how I believe my character would shoot the gun) there is little recoil.
                  - In both game view references, there isn't much weight to the gun more so that it is quite controlled, the movements aren't too light, and the arcs aren't easily noticeable. Both references also have a more pose-to-pose animation going from reload to idle and aim/shooting to idle.

                    How is the gun positioned during the aim position? Pointing at the center just off to the left side by 3%
                    How does the gun fire? Is there a lot of recoil? Minimal recoil? pull the trigger and it fires rapidly and it pushes you back a bit by the impact by that i mean a lot of recoil
                    Analyze the transition in and out of the normal idle. Is the gun weight apparent? Arcs obvious? its clear to see the gun is quite big and bulky and arcs are obvious

                        there is a lot of recoil, but due to it being close to the body it returns quickly to the center

                        there is a small arc and a camera zoom during the transition, and the weight is somewhat apparent
