What makes the pose, the pose? Start with the torso. Is it bending? Is it twisting? Which leg is the weight on more than the other? Will the pose change in the next second? But above all, what is the ADJECTIVE, and not just the verb?

What makes the character the character? What makes the character instantly recognizable? What separates this design from a human being, no matter how much steroids and protein shakes they consume? The operative word is PROPORTIONS.

If you have the character, and you have the pose, whether in front of you or in your mind, all you have to do is draw the character doing the pose, and that is figure drawing.

    Assignment forthcoming.

Assignment due IN CLASS Monday 11/18:

Go as far as you can drawing the HULK (or I should say, a drawing of a figure immmediately identifiable as The Hulk) doing the "pensive" or "relaxed" pose above. Remember, making it the Hulk has to start from the very beginning, in the Patrick stage, otherwise you end up with a figure that has Hulk muscles on the regular dude's skeleton. Give it a go and bring it into class on Monday, and I'll walk you through the process if you need additional help. Anyone who's done early will do the female pose using Chun-Li or Elasti-Girl, you odn't have to worry about that for this assignment.

On Wednesday we will start our final project, where we do a final drawing of a character of our choosing doing a pose we direct.
