  • Spring 2025 | Eye - High Poly

You will be showcasing your High Poly eye asset sculpted in ZBrush. There should be a major emphasis surrounding the realism and anatomy of Iris specifically. It's a very intricate, organic structure that gives every eye its unique look. I'm looking for several landmarks of the Iris and a key focus on its layered, fibrous, and radial complexity. Uniformity is not the goal here, unique hand-sculpted asymmetrical details!

Anatomy landmarks I'll be looking for as discussed in class:
    • Limbus
      • It's not a hard-edge transition, but rather a soft one. Make it organic and a natural transition. Keep the idea of the Limbus shadow in mind as understanding it's shadow can help us better understand it's form.
    • Dilator Region
      • The radial striations extending from the pupil are still visible here, but ensure you maintain the effects of the limbus with contraction furrows still present near the outside of the dilator region subtly calming down closer towards the inner dilator region. Crypts also need to be visible here as well.
    • Crypts
      • Looking for deep pits in the iris stroma, but make sure they are not hard edged. Inflate the borders of these to give them thickness and keep in mind they are more prevalent near the collarette. We should still see the underlying radial fibers that come from the pupillary margin through the crypts.
    • Collarette
      • Think layered sculptures and depth. It's not flat. The collarette is the thickest ring in the iris and what is dividing both the dilator and sphincter region of the iris. We need to make it feel like a ridge, almost a ledge that we then transition down towards the pupil.
    • Sphincter Region
      • Where out iris meets the pupil. Make sure the pupillary margin has detail. It's not a hard edged perfectly cylindrical form. Sculpt concentric ridges at the margin as the radial fibers extend outwards. Individual fibers or one piece of sculpture, we still need breakup here.

    Final Deliverables
    • Your final High Poly eye sculpture
      • ZTool
    • High resolution renders of your eye sculpture.
      • Clean and mindful composition and/or layout is key
      • Every pixel, every picture matters
