For this stage of the project, you will focus on creating a solid Block-in for your chosen asset. Your submission should demonstrate your ability to establish the silhouette, proportions, shape play, and scale of the piece while staying true to your 2D concept. Accurately representing the 2d concept is always the goal within the parameters of your set comparables in your reference board. This step is critical for laying the foundation of your final model and ensuring technical accuracy for future phases.
- Blockout in UE5
- Import your block-in into Unreal Engine 5 to test scale, alignment, and overall integration in a game-like environment.
- Ensure proper proportions compared to the provided character base mesh or your custom stylized base.
- Blockout in Maya (Scale)
- Verify that your block-in maintains accurate scale and alignment with the base mesh in Maya.
- Blockout in ZBrush
- Focus on blocking out the major forms and proportions in ZBrush. Can be rough and lose, but still true to form.
- Ensure the character asset reflects your 2D concept
- Alignment with Base Mesh
- If you are creating a realistic piece, use the provided Male or Female base mesh for proper alignment and deformation compatibility.
- For stylized assets, you will need to create your own underlying base mesh, ensuring it is proportionally accurate and functional.
- Screenshots:
- UE5: Include in-game screenshots of the block-in from multiple angles. Show the asset off from the player controller of your choice (FPS, Third-Person, or Top Down).
- Maya: Upload screenshots of the block-in in Maya. Use the Distance Tool to showcase your correct scale.
- ZBrush: Provide screenshots of the block-in from ZBrush, accurately representing your character asset. Use the Outline Thin material to preview a flat shader on your base mesh.
- There is no limit to the amount of images requested.
- Every pixel, every picture matters though! Although they are Work in Progress updates, give care and attention to the composition, layout, rendering quality, etc. of your submissions.
- I'd rather have fewer images with consolidated renders composited in than a million individual wips.
- If done well, work in progress images are great portfolio pieces!
