Shell shown in left hand is parented to the left hand, and shells shown in the barrel are parented to the shotgun. The shells in the barrel will eject and be "replaced" by the ones in the left hand by returning to their original positions.
I will use the locator parent and child locator method and parent the child1 to the duplicated ammo and the parent1 to the left hand. That way so it will be easier to move the left hand when its taking out the ammo and I could just hide the original geometry for the ammo in the process.

The ammo will fall out of the weapon and then another magazine will be pushed in place to replace the old one! Either that or the character will pull out the old magazine manually and replace it, I haven't quite decided yet! It will be controlled with a basic parenting constraint
