  • Fall 2024 | Hard-Surface Prop - UV & Bake Test

    Due in Class!

You will work in pairs to complete this exercise. Once your asset is reviewed and approved, you will assist another group with their project. The entire class must complete the exercise for everyone to pass.

This task is designed to assess your proficiency in UV mapping and texture baking for a 3D asset. You will be working with three objects in a Maya scene: Polysurface A, Polysurface B, and Polysurface C. Your objective is to efficiently UV map these objects into a single 0-1 UV space, ensuring minimal draw calls. Afterward, you will bake the textures in Marmoset, aiming for clean normal maps, ambient occlusion (AO) maps, and ID maps.

    Parameters:
    • Software: Maya for UV mapping, Marmoset for baking.
    • Objects: Polysurface A, Polysurface B, Polysurface C.
    • UV Mapping: Combine all three objects into one 0-1 UV space.
    • Draw Calls: Ensure one material draw call and one geometry draw call.
    • Baking: Bake the combined object into one asset named “Polysurface”.
    • Maps Required: Normal map, AO map, ID map.
    • File Naming: Name your materials, bakes, and model files appropriately using the asset name “Polysurface”.
    Download Asset Files Here: AGND2333_UVBakeTest.mb

    Deliverables:
    1. Screenshot of Maya Outliner & UVs: Provide a screenshot of your Outliner with a clean Naming Convention and your UV layout for the combined objects.
    2. Screenshot of Asset in Marmoset: Include a screenshot of the asset in Marmoset with clean bakes, showcasing the normal map, AO map, and ID map.
