  • 10/24 Assignment | Internship & Studio Research, Tailored Demo Reel, Resume

    ​Pick an internship to "apply" to from the above selection.

    ✅ Once you have decided on an internship to apply to, answer the following in-class & finish for homework:​
    • Is the internship for gameplay, cinematics, or both?​
    • Does the internship posting mention any specific projects that you would be working on?​
    • What games are they working on or have developed in the past (past 5 years)?​
    • What is the primary camera view of their game(s)? Provide screenshots from gameplay videos.​
    • Does the internship require motion capture? ​
    • If it is not mentioned, do you see any motion capture work in their previous titles?​
      • Describe their games' animation style. Stylized? Realistic? Cartoony?​
    • Find at least 1 demo reel containing work from these games. Upload to syncsketch.

    ✅ Bring first pass of a tailored demo reel next class (upload to syncsketch):

      • Mocap is not required for the internship but it is used in some of the games they listed.
      • Their games have several styles, Call of Duty has a lot of mocap, fps animations, that are all done with realism. Whereas their other shooter--Overwatch-- also has a lot of fps animation but all of their work is done by keying by hand as well as being really stylized.

          Company's Past/Progressing Works :
          Their core games are League of Legends, VALORANT, Teamfight Tactics, and Wild Right.

          According to their roadmap they plan on integrating more media into projects like esports, music, and entertainment such as TV-shows. They also have a WIP project called, "Project L. "

          Motion Capture Requirement? :
          No. But motion capture is prevalent in their cinematic shorts for their games like League of Legends, and Valorant!

          Animation Style:
          Riot Games covers a variety of animation styles, primarily they seem to center themselves around a mix of realistic and stylized motions. However if you specifically focus on League of Legends and its related games, they do emphasize a stylized practice because the camera view is "gods-eye" and requires intense posing for the viewer to properly consume the animation.

            • Does the internship posting mention any specific projects that you would be working on?​ I didn't see anything in particular, but projects will be done in Maya.

              The internship is for both gameplay and cinematic!
              The internship does not mention any specific projects, but specifically states they want strong keyframe skills.
              The games they've been working on / developed have been Call of Duty, World of Warcraft, Overwatch, Diablo, Candy Crush & Bubble Witch.
              It seems like the primary camera view is in first person, though some are in third person.

              Motion capture is not mentioned in the internship, but it's used in Call of Duty (the only one that I know of).​
              The games have a lot of variety in animation! For the image examples provided, Call of Duty is more realistic while Overwatch is more stylized.

                they made Spiderman, Spiderman 2, Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart, and Spiderman Miles Morales
                Thier games are from a 3rd person perspective view
                the internship requires polishing of mocap data
                some of their games use Mocap
                Their games are both realistic and stylized

                          I've decided to apply to the Insomniac Internship

                          - This internship is both cinematic and gameplay
                          - The post does not mention a specific project the intern would work on
                          - Insomniac Games is currently working on Marvel Wolverine for PS5. Their past titles in the last 5 years are;
                          a. Spiderman 2 (2023)
                          b. Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart (2021)
                          c. SpiderMan: Miles Morales (2020)
                          d. Stormland (2019)
                          - Their games are typically 3rd Person Cameras. Usually follows behind the character however, the player can rotate the camera around the character.
