  • Allen Salvador - Project Proposal #4

    Hello!

I would like to pitch two different ideas, with idea #1 being my preference. There are two ideas because idea #1 is outside of the parameters given by the syllabus.
    • #1, Street Fighter Joe: ZZZ Animations.
For idea one I would like to mimic the style of animation used within ZZZ, commonly denoted as "overanimation". For this idea I will animate an idle + idle additive set, with smooth transitions between the sets featuring dynamic camera movement. Here is the list of intended animations...
(Just to clarify the "sets" are the idle and additive combined. The transitions go after the sets to connect them smoothly. I imagine that loops still hold on an emphasis in these project proposals so I've decided to separate the idle and additive for turn in. )
    • 3 Idle Loops
    • 3 Idle Additive Loops
    • 3 Transitions between idle + idle additive sets.
    • I will output 7 videos (x3 Idle, x3 Idle Additive, x1 Combined).

    (Rigs used for idea #1...)

If idea #1 is not accepted I will then move onto....
    • #2, Celeste Animations
Idea #2 will feature 3D animated recreations of the loops in Celeste. Celeste is a dynamic pixelated platformer, featuring high movement gameplay. Here is the list of intended animations...
    • Idle
    • Run
    • Jump (Jump Anticipation, Jump Fall, Jump Land).
    • Jump Dash.
    • I will output 4 videos. (x1 Idle, x1 Run, x1 Jump, x1 Jump Dash).
    (Rigs used for idea #2...)

The max points for an animation project is 10. Both of these are really too big for that. If you'd like to winnow either of these down to three good animations we could talk about that.

My apologies! I would then like to do... Idea #1, (ZZZ, Overanimated Style) with three looping idles with transitions between them, featuring Joe from Street Fighter 1 as the personality base.

Negative on 3 idles....if you wanted to do a run, walk, and an idle...we could do that. But I'd need to see them.

ZZZ isn't the one though. That already exists in 3D. Can you find an older game where your work is an interpretation, not just a copy, of animation/pose choices?

Unfortunately the crux of idea #1 was to be an in-depth analysis of animation choices. So I think I'll move on from that idea to pursue idea #2!

And to clarify for Idea #2 I'll do the...

      Idle, Run, and Jump!

OK. A big part of your reference on that one is the hair (I'd argue it's the central mechanic that sells the silhouettes of all the poses). Be sure your rig allows for complex manipulation of hair and that you consider it carefully as you animate.

I completely agree! Luckily the rig, Tribal Zelda, has a really large and manipulatable braid-- so I think it'll work out! Thank you so much!
