Remember:
- Semiotics. Are you making camera choices that add meaning to the scene?
- Think “lenses”. Is the focal length the most appropriate choice? How close should the character appear to be? How intimate should the conversation feel? Are we making lens choices that communicate this?
- Depth of Field is pretty easy to manage in UE5. Use it with purpose.
- Rule of Thirds. Guideline....not a rule. But an awfully good place to start.
- Screen Space
- Cut often. Avoid long shots....remember your beats.
- Hold camera still. I know its easy to move the camera. But imagine that its two tons and you have to lay railroad track to move it.
- If you choose to move the camera, pick your shots carefully. Make it mean something.
- 180 rule. Remember the guideline and how to break it.
- AutoExposure is the devil.
