  • Spring 2025 | Golem WIP 02 Refinement

    Due before class (6:00pm): (02/19/25)

A "Work in Progress" (WIP) assignment in digital sculpting refers to an intermediate stage of a sculpting project where you present your ongoing work before reaching the final completed piece.

In a WIP assignment, you are required to share your progress, demonstrate your sculpting skills, and receive feedback from your instructors or peers to refine your work further.

**For this WIP, I want to see your sculpture move from a Block In to a more refined Golem. I should see fully sculpted elements of your Golems, no placeholders. Rocks should look like rocks, Wood should look like wood, Utilize Dynamesh resolution to sculpt refined surfaces and add details. You will focus on creating well-defined geometry and form for all of the character elements represented in the 2D concept art while maintaining alignment with proportions, silhouette, and overall aesthetic.

Include your name in the post!

Answer this question: Do you feel you spent enough time on the Golem WIP 1 : Block In?

    Deliverables:
    • An Image of your 2D Concept Art Reference (.png)
    • Turnaround Renders:
      • You are uploading your compiled Photoshop renders utilizing BPR from ZBrush posted directly inline of your UIW3D Forums post. (.png)
      • Minimum Views (Front, ¾ front, Side, ¾ Back views)

I do feel I spent enough time on the Golem WIP 1 Block In because the entire structure of the Golem was already in place before doing the 2nd WIP.

I believe I spent enough time on the Block-in. I was able to accurately capture its unique anatomy as well as making the back feel like its part of the front. (Even though I could not see the back.)
Moving Forward: Add Tertiary details, Block-in Material and Color, and try out ZRemesh

WIP 01 helped me get the basically shapes and where things were supposed to go, but I do wish I spent more time overall on the golem. For now I will be focusing on the moss and the roots

I don't think I spent enough time on the block-in, but I do believe the time I was able to spend working on it was spent somewhat efficiently, being able to get the basic shapes and ideas in.

I think I did spend enough time on the block-in, however needing to redo the work I made previously for the new pose definitely set me back and I wasn't able to do as much detailing as I wanted to for this turn-in.

I believe that enough time was spent on my first block-in, because I was able to understand how the proportions of the golem differ, as well as how the different materials I would have to utilize.

I feel like I haven't put enough time into WIP 1. I think I'm around 80% done with the sculpting. I just have to add more details like the vines and the armor scratch on the golem. I was going to include the vines in this WIP, but My Zbrush crashed while trying to use the knife tool. and I ended up losing all progress on the vines

I think i could have spent a little longer on the first block in over the weekend, but for the amount of time i spent on it i got quite a lot done. Theres still things im trying to catch up and block in, which hopefully will be done by next WIP.

I don't think that I spent enough time on the first WIP. I'm having to play a bit of catch up as some parts of the model are lacking detail that should've been present in WIP 1.

I've been re doing some rock models to make them seperate but I didn't have time to do all of the parts.

I wish I gave myself more time to get ahead on these details. The block in is there, but there are a lot of parts to figure out and add on. I will spend extra time this weekend to catch up on these details. I'm gonna need to give myself time to match the coloring.

I think I didn't spend enough time fully focusing on the general shapes so that is what I tried to do now and make some edges sharper to try and help it read better
