  • Nerf Gun WIP #1

    Due at Midnight (12:00am): (10/25/24)

A "Work in Progress" (WIP) assignment in digital sculpting refers to an intermediate stage of a sculpting project where you present your ongoing work before reaching the final completed piece.

In a WIP assignment, you are required to share your progress, demonstrate your sculpting skills, and receive feedback from your instructors or peers to refine your work further.

This WIP serves as a foundational step in the asset creation process designed to assess your ability to accurately translate 2D concept art into 3D form through what we refer to as the Block-in process.

You will focus on creating all BASE GEOMETRY and form for the NERF Gun represented in the 2D concept art while maintaining alignment with proportions, silhouette, and overall aesthetic. NERF Guns are composed of several parts, these Primary Shapes are what I am looking for.

Include your name in the post!

Answer these questions: 1. Did you take time to research and learn about ZModeler on your own? 2. What is something you learned about ZModeler that I have not yet covered in class or that you want me to cover more in class?

    Deliverables:
    • An Image of your 2D Concept Art Reference (.png)
    • Turnaround Renders:
      • You are screenshots/BPR from ZBrush posted directly inline of your UIW3D Forums post. (.png)
      • Minimum Views (Front, ¾ front, Side, ¾ Back views)

Here is what I have so far. I decided to make the mini–Ender Dragon Nerf gun instead because I was having a hard time with Zombie-themed one.

Decided to completely switch to a different gun since my previous one had too much going on for my brain.

Question: Yes, watched a quick tips video and youtube and found some useful information. Can't remember if you covered the use of stitch on points in class but I think that would be helpful for others.

      My notes from video---
Align edges- helps create a flat surface if accident curves were placed in the mesh.

Changing Multiple-edge loops to on for insert with the resolution of 8 or 1 allows to find center of the face and place an insert.

Set flow- keeps edge but tries to smooth out the shape you click.

Bridge hole- useful to make bridge to two holes with two holes options and makes like a pipe to both holes.

Stitch- allows to redirect point to another point and clean up faces.

      How to set hotkey
hold ctrl + alt + click on button (task) + choose hot key on keyboard

      Masking- go to unmasked center

        Natalia Perez-
I didn’t had enough time to update my gun, but this is what I have so far. What I used for another source for help is the zclassroom site; it’s a site that shows a bunch of zbrush tutorials, and it really helped me a lot by watching some videos that were related about using z modeler. I had help with how to use the reference better in zbrush, along sculpting the right shapes for my gun.

          1) 1. Yes, I have researched some basics about using zmodler, and have utilized that research the most in the barrel.

          2) will we be applying a NERF logo to our assignments? and if so how would we go about applying it to something with such limited topology, are we expected to have a lot?

1.Did you take time to research and learn about ZModeler on your own? Doing mini exercises as I follow along with the ZModeler videos I am watching.

            2. What is something you learned about ZModeler that I have not yet covered in class or that you want me to cover more in class? Not sure if it was covered when I was in traffic for 3 hours but. Live booleans would be a good one. As well as isolating pieces with the flip/double mode when trying to mirror onto opposite end of subtool.
