  • Rock Golem WIP #2 | Fall 2024

    Due before class (7:30am): (10/06/24)

A "Work in Progress" (WIP) assignment in digital sculpting refers to an intermediate stage of a sculpting project where you present your ongoing work before reaching the final completed piece.

In a WIP assignment, you are required to share your progress, demonstrate your sculpting skills, and receive feedback from your instructors or peers to refine your work further.

For this WIP, I want to see your sculpture move from a Block In to a more refined Golem. I should see fully sculpted elements of your Golems, no placeholders. Rocks should look like rocks, Wood should look like wood, Utilize Dynamesh resolution to sculpt refined surfaces and add details.

You will focus on creating well-defined geometry and form for all of the character elements represented in the 2D concept art while maintaining alignment with proportions, silhouette, and overall aesthetic.

Include your name in the post!

Answer this question: Do you feel you spent enough time on Golem WIP 1, yes or no? Why?

    Deliverables:
    • An Image of your 2D Concept Art Reference (.png)
    • Turnaround Renders:
      • Minimum Views (Front, ¾ front, Side, ¾ Back views)

I know that I have spend a good amount of time with designing the head and the rock collar because I feel comfortable with finally knowing some of the tools that I can use for the model, but I feel like that I still need to work a little more on the limbs and I need to add the cape and few other details. Overall, I still enjoyed modifying and designing the model.

      1. I do feel like I spent a lot of time on WIP #1, but I had to restart a lot of times (and I ended up scrapping a lot of it and thats my WIP #2). I feel like I wasn't using my time wisely and was wasting time doing bad modeling. I am happy with the direction this 2nd WIP is going though.

Madelyn Mora - I most definantly could have spent more time on my golem. She still needs more detail and clothing. I plan on working double time on her in the days to come. And yes, I will make her face look more rocky

Martin V. Delgado - So right now my progress has been very slow, I suffered like 10 crashes this past week, lately my usb sometimes doesn't work, and my zbrush files saves on my usb got corrupted losing a lot of progress. I honestly wanted to quit to this Golem and start on a new one with an easier shape, but I gave it one more chance praying for ZBrush to cooperate with me and I think it is turning out very good after all the inconveniences I had. :,D I still need to learn how to do ice texture, snow texture, and maybe I could learn how to do desert plants like a cactus to give my golem a bit more of nature.

The amount of time that I've spent on the golem has left me feeling happy with the progress that I've made, and confident in the workflow that I have to do on the rest of the mesh. I know the tools I need to use for the details I want, and thanks to the trials and errors in the past few days I have a stronger plan. With a clear schedule and a mental roadmap for how the rest of the mesh will be detailed, I can say I believe in my ability to finish the assignment.

I'm going to be honest, I procrastinated and ran out of time to finish my golem, that's why he doesn't have actual arms or any hands. Well, I guess I learned my lesson, huh? Because now I'm going to get a bad grade.

No, feel like I could have done more if I knew certain things before.
