Objective:
In this assignment, you will create a comprehensive reference board that captures the visual and thematic elements required for building a compelling and realistic 3D scene. This board will serve as a foundation for your project, guiding your artistic and technical decisions. You will use PureRef to assemble a board with all necessary references for the following elements.
Assignment Requirements:
- Main and Secondary Concept:
- Define the central theme and style of your scene. Include images that capture the primary concept you want to communicate.
- Identify a secondary concept that adds depth or contrast to the main idea. For example, the secondary concept might introduce variations in materials, colors, or mood.
- The mood of the Scene:
- Select images that convey the atmosphere of your scene (e.g., mysterious, industrial, tranquil). Consider the emotional tone you aim to evoke.
- Use references that reflect lighting, color schemes, and environmental details to communicate this mood effectively.
- Lighting:
- Choose lighting references that illustrate how light interacts within your scene.
- If applicable, include both daytime and nighttime lighting variations. Consider references that show how light affects color, texture, and shadows in similar environments.
- Materials:
- Compile material references relevant to your scene. For example, if your environment includes stone, wood, or metal, gather images that showcase texture and wear.
- Choose at least three distinct material references and include details like surface imperfections, weathering, and reflections.
- Lighting Prop:
- Find reference images for any lighting props essential to your scene, such as lamps, torches, or neon signs.
- Pay attention to the design and materials of these props to ensure they integrate with your scene’s mood and story.
- Modular Piping:
- Collect references for modular piping that can be used in your scene. These should include shapes, connections, and placements typical of the scene setting (industrial, fantasy, sci-fi).
- Consider how these components contribute to the overall visual language of your environment.
- Crate or Barrel:
- Include images of crates, barrels, or other storage items that fit your scene’s setting.
- Pay attention to their materials, aging, and placement within similar environments.
- Hero Prop:
- Select a “hero” prop that will serve as a focal point or highlight in your scene. This should be a visually striking object that adds depth to your story.
- Gather references that demonstrate key details of this prop, such as craftsmanship, wear, and scale.
- Story:
- Describe the narrative behind your scene. What story is this space telling?
- Include visual cues that support the story (e.g., signs of life, abandoned tools, evidence of past events).
