Assignment Overview
Before beginning the modeling phase of your chair project, you will need to gather comprehensive reference materials to ensure accuracy in both modeling and texturing. This assignment focuses on proper reference collection, organization, and documentation techniques.
Required Software
- PureRef (Installation Instructions):
1. Visit https://pureref.com/
2. Click "Get PureRef"
3. Select "Personal" license
4. Choose your operating system
5. Select "Custom Amount" and enter "0" for the free version
6. Download and install
Assignment Requirements
Reference Image Collection
Gather the following required images for your chosen chair:
1. Technical Views
- Front view
- Side view
- Back or top view
- Additional angles showing unique details
- Precise dimensions
2. Material References
- Close-up shots of each material used
- Surface detail photographs with flash-enabled
- Self-taken photos of similar materials when possible
- Documentation of:
- Surface imperfections
- Scratches and smudges
- Wear patterns
- Damage details
3. Material Properties
- Photos showing roughness variations
- Multiple angle shots demonstrating material behavior with light
- Surface detail documentation
4. Lighting References
- Real-life photography showing chair(s) in various lighting conditions

1. Photo Organization
Create clearly labeled categories for your references. Organize images by:
- Chair Images Technical views
- Chair Technical views (blueprints)
- Materials

2. Reference Quality Guidelines
- High-resolution images
- Clear, well-lit photographs
- Flash-enabled shots for surface details
- Multiple angles of each material
- Authentic, real-world examples
Submission Requirements
1. Create and folder called reference inside of your chair folder.
- Add all collected reference images to this folder.
- Create a PureRef file called yourname_chair_ref.
- Add and orgaized all the reference images inside of the PureRef file.
- Once complete take a screenshot of the whole organized reference board and save it as your name_refBoard_v001.png
2. Submit to the forums:
- Shared a link to your chair folder
- Upload Screenshot of your organized PureRef board
Important Notes
- Chair selection must be approved before beginning the modeling phase
- Choose only real, existing chairs with adequate reference material
- The project will be modeled at a 1:1 scale
- References must support accurate reproduction
