  • Software: VRay

VRay Licenses on a campus server. This means it can be run at home, but you need to get behind the firewall to access it.

To get VRay on your machine (you only need to do this once):
    1. Install Maya 2020.
    2. Download THIS First VRAY NEXT for Maya installer.
    3. To install:
      1. Launch (double-click) the vray_adv_43001_maya2020_x64.exe you just downloaded
      2. Accept the the End User License Agreement. Click Next button..
      3. If you installed Maya to the standard location (C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Maya2020\); the installer should find it. Just click the Install Now button.
      4. There may be a few other windows to click through as ChaosGroup installs ChaosCloud and some other things. When it's all done just hit the Finish button.
      5. Go to Windows Start>Chaos Group>Change License Setting
      6. Change the settings to match:
    4. Download the latest version - Click Here: VRay 5 (for Maya 2020) installer.
      1. Launch (double-click) the vray_adv_50020_maya2020_x64.exe you just downloaded
      2. Everything will be automatically updated for you, just follow the prompts!
    5. Once installed, activate the VRay Plugin (although you still won't be able to render with VRay quite yet)
      1. Launch Maya
      2. Window>Settings/Preferences>Plugins Manager.
      3. Match the following settings:
      4. Quit Maya.
To get behind UIW's firewall (you only need to do this once):
    1. Go here: https://connect.uiwtx.edu/
    2. Login using your UIW credentials.
    3. Click Download for Windows
    4. When download is finished, double-click the file (anyconnect-win-4.7.04056-core-vpn-webdeploy-k9.exe).
    5. Run through the installer windows to install Cisco AnyConnect on your machine.
Every time you plan to use VRay, you need to first use AnyConnect to login to the University's network (unless you are on campus).
    1. Launch Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client from the Windows/Start pop-up menu.
    2. Enter "connect.uiwtx.edu" in the input field and click Connect
    3. Login with your UIW credentials.
    4. Once connected, launch Maya and you should be able to render with VRay.
