Course Description:
This studio/lecture course provides observational study and rendering techniques important for animators, modelers, and character designers.
This is a Sophomore through Senior-level course required for all BFA ANGD majors.
Course Materials:
At the beginning of each class, each student is expected to have whatever tools necessary to do in-class drawing exercises
Every student is also expected to have simple photo-manipulation software at their disposal at home, that they can use a drawing tool on

Drawing Assignments:
Drawing exercises are assigned at the end of every class and are due the next class. Because this is a skill-based class, incremental improvement of performance is to be expected.
Drawing assignments grading criteria:
Attendance:
Students are expected to attend every class, and put forth the effort in learning and on their assignments.

Course Description:
This studio/lecture course provides observational study and rendering techniques important for animators, modelers, and character designers.
This is a Sophomore through Senior-level course required for all BFA ANGD majors.
Course Materials:
At the beginning of each class, each student is expected to have whatever tools necessary to do in-class drawing exercises
- Pencils of various softness, hardness of at least H, softness of at least 8B, and various softnesses in-between
- Kneaded eraser
- Regular eraser
- A T-square with measurements
- Large drawing board, capable of holding paper of at least 11" by 17"
Every student is also expected to have simple photo-manipulation software at their disposal at home, that they can use a drawing tool on
- Photoshop
- iPad (or similar)
Course Outcomes:
- Draw the figure using proper scale and proportions with an understanding of structure and anatomy
- Draw expressive poses and portraits for character development
- Render final drawings that address the relationships of proportion, form, mass and weight
- Use dynamic line drawing techniques to develop characters that express effective energy and force
- Develop deep observation skills to improve all drawings in any context
Grading Assessment:
- Drawing assignments 70%
- Attendance & Participation 30%
