      What makes sense to me is one of the responses in which they state that there are more bad demos because it's easier to create one with a personal computer these days. Maybe a certain 3d teacher could shed some more light on this.

              Exactly as he said, because it's easier to create a reel on a personal computer. Before, you had to have access to high end stuff ($30k SGI boxes etc...) to create any 3D - let alone a reel. Now everyone can do 3D at home; but just because you can create a 3D image doesn't mean it's a good one.

              That's the whole point of his rant and why it's important that 3D isn't just about software mastery. The tool monkeys don't get the jobs. it's also the reason why the most successful training institutions aren't just training software - but concepts, story, and visual impact.
