Inpsired by the Mayan city of Tikal

    Style: Pre-Columbian - Mayan

    Date: 600 b.c.
    Movie setting: 1511

    Movie: Apocalypto

Significance: Though historically inaccurate, in Apocalypto we are introduced to a Mayan city to which the captives are taken to. In this scene, we see a town square and in the middle a great temple in which sacrifices are being held. We get the understanding that the city's foundations are crumbling and is in famine, so the people have turned to their priests to sacrifice captives in order to secure their future. Unfortunately, our protagonist is among those captives and must now try to survive.

          Movie: Indiana Jones 2

          Style/period: Art Deco.

Time: late 1920s to the 1940s

Significance: As Indiana Jones is escaping from the criminals of Shanghai, there happens to be a lot of art deco signs and lights. The scene itself give off a rich wealthy domain while giving this feeling of security at first towards other people but that doesn't seem to be the case for Indiana Jones as he must flee from danger.

Even after living in a futuristic world, Hiro Hamada lives with his aunt, and his brother Tadamashi Hamada. Period/Style: Japanese

              Game:Pokemon Sun and Moon

Time of built: 1397, rebuilt at 1955

Significance:In Pokemon Sun and Moon, the player is completing their island trails as he/she is in the 3rd island known as Ula Ula Island. They are at first relaxed when they enter the Malie Garden. This place seems to be mainly on Japanese architecture for it has colors such as; gold, grey and lot of greens. It also happens to be based on the Kinkaku-ji also known as "The Golden Pavilion,"which is in Kita-ku, Kyōto. In the game it is said that the people of Johto build it for remembering their hometown, which is important because Johto is based on the Kansai region of Japan where Kyoto is located at. During, WW2 Japan was at Pearl Harbor and many were imprisoned for their actions. Additionally this makes young viewers realize that there is a lot of Japanese Influence in Hawaii and even today the Japanese try to combine their culture with the U.S.A

                Period/Style:American Beaux Arts

Movie: The Assasination of Gianni Versace

                Time of Built: 1930

Significance:The mansion that use to belong to Gianni Versace is significant because it contains American Beaux Arts and is heavily influence to Italian Renaissance. It embraces beaux arts through the roman statues along with the fountain itself. The floor patterns, and the hues of tan can also give the impression of Italy being brought to the U.S.A. This was made on purpose for giving the illusion that Gianni was a ruler from Italian mythology living in the U.S.A. In the movie he claims that he loves Medusa, for this would symbolically make the crowd turn to stone through his work. Though Medusa's origin is Greek it can also be Roman.

                  Movie:Good Will Hunting

                  Time: 1913 and 1916

Significance: In Good Will Hunting Matt Damon is judged for his actions and is send to that building. This monument is known as Killian Court in MIT(Massachusetts Institute of Technology). The producers of the film wanted this movie to scream Boston, through the domes it gives off this idea known as Palladianism. It also wants to give the audience the idea of the U.S being heavily formal and expressive like countries in Europe(such as: Italy or France).

                    Period/Style:American Craftsman
                    Movie: Toy Story.
                    Time:1940
Reason: This is American Craftsman due to the clean lines of bright wood, it seems middle class and can seem to have more natural modern colors instead of bright sophisticated colors. It was based from Frank Lloyd Wright's prairie school interiors. The animators wanted to give Andy's room was coming from the north states. In fact Frank Lloyd wright was from Wisconsin, while toy story took place in Indiana it seems that they were not far way from each other. Plus Frank Lloyd wrights early works were in Indiana, Illinois and Wisconsin.

                      Style/Period: French Baroque.

                      Series:Versailles

                      Time:1682

Significance: King Louis the XIV is king of France and believes he is chosen by God to rule. Due to the place being baroque this helps give the place a sophisticating form of power yet ornate. The place gives him this idea of being chosen for the manipulation of light in the scene. The producers of the film wanted to let the audience know on how the king was extremely important. Baroque gives off this feeling of luxury proving how grandiose was the king in person and wealth.

                        Style/Period:Art Deco

                        Movie:The original King Kong

                        Time:1931

Significance: As the "8th wonder of the world" climbs up the most iconic landmark of New York City known as the Empire State Building. He is trying his last attempt to protect the woman from all harms way. This is symbolic for since during the art deco period it was a time of extraordinary wealth along with pride, giving King Kong the allegory of the world's delusional greed while the woman symbolizes the true innocence that still exists. In the ending of the film when the planes killed King Kong, it gives the message on how the modern world would do it's best to eradicate the inner ugly truth in order to make society not question nor remember.

                          Style/Period: Ancient Islamic

                          Movie: Disney's Aladdin

                          Time:C. 1517-1924 AD

Significance: As Disney's Aladdin starts to build up the introduction, you are traveled through all Agrabah toward the palace. When the music builds up this gives off the stereotypical Islamic ambience. The palace seems to take inspiration to the Taj Mahal and part of Mimar Sinan's architecture(due to most of his famous buildings made up of domes). Personally this great wonder is in my bucket list.

                            Period/Style: Ming Dynasty China

                            Movie:Kung Fu Panda

                            Time:1420 -1912.

Significance: As Po has been chosen as the Dragon Warrior, he must overcome his self doubt and ignore the opinions of others. This setting is based on the Forbidden City. It is significant because only the rich were able to enter, and since Po was mediocre this made people discomfort him like the Furious Five and especially master Shifu at first. The architecture itself truly screams out Imperial China, for the hues of red and jade. Now Po must accomplish his mission into becoming the dragon warrior.

Movie: Transformers dark of the moon
Significance: in the movie Transformers dark of the moon the 35 E Wacker building was used as the main point in which the autobot Sentinel Prime place the pillars he created to create a portal to teleport their home planet of cybertron into the Earth's solar system and have the humans as slaves to rebuild cybertron. The four pillars he had were placed onto the four corners of the roof and the extruded part of the roof was used to amplify the strenght of the pillars, thus opening the portal.

                                Petra

                                Style: Roman

                                Year: 753 BC- 1071 AD

                                Game: Overwatch

Significance: Overwatch is known for having many heroes with many different backgrounds, as well as having maps inspired by many real world locations, one of those maps being Petra. Petra is a deathmatch map where 8 players battle against each other and the first one to get 20 kills wins the game. Since the Overwatch universe takes place in a more advanced future, the design of the map not only gives an ancient feel, but it gives a different look compared to the other more futuristic maps.
