i really need your help :-/

first of all: THX for reading this thread : )

well, im new to this board but have some questions about the UIW and applying as a student from (sucking) germany and hope you guys can give me some support.

after finishing my training in december i would love to study in the states, but it seems to be a bit more difficult than i thought lol.

iwas discovering a lot of university-websites of texas, but the UIW was the only one fitting and showing kinda technical skill to me. now my prob is: what the heck do i need all to apply ?
ok, the good`ol T.O.E.F.L is not that prob,
but what else do i need?

are there any great skills recondemned?
what kind of portfolio do they want?
what is the average montly payment?
on how much i would be able to live on after i`ve paid for college?
are the the teachers/proffs easy to live with and (i have to ask that cuz here its not that way) skilled?
are you guys friendly :D ?
how is the life on the campus?
are you guys really friendly?

well lets put`em all together:
what test/papers/visas do i need?
how much money do i need at all?
are you guys really friendly?

Actually, the best people to talk to about that is the admissions office.

Although this will change in the next year or two; we currently have a fairly open-door policy. The most important thing is that you come ready to work and excited to learn.

Well, that's the million dollar question; and its very hard to answer. It's further compounded as there is really a huge divergence in cost of living. For instance, if you make $70k/year in San Francisco, you are barely scraping by; where as $40k in San Antonio will allow you to live in relative comfort (house, car, play money, etc....

It also depends on if you're doing 3D or Web/Print. And as always; it all depends on how much talent you have and how hard you work to create a truly amazing portfolio. In this business, a degree doesn't promise any definitive paycheck and doesn't guarantee a job at all. You and your portfolio determine that.

The degree simply puts the tools and design knowledge into your grasp so you can create those needed portfolio pieces through class projects.

We're really hard to get a long with ;-) ; but we all continue to work in the industry through freelance, so our skills are always in line with industry standards.
