  • Laptop questions

Ok, so I've been thinking about picking up a laptop but I'm not wanting to spend a ton of money. Basically I just need something good enough to run Maya and the CS2 Suite comfortably. I know a guy selling a used laptop w/ the following specs.

    Dell E1705:
Got it just before Easter 06
    Core Duo 1.83 ghz processor
    1 gig ram
    17" WUXGA true life
    blue tooth 350
    Intel 3945 Wireless
    DVDRW/CDRW
    9 Cell Battery
ATI Mobility X1400-256 meg Graphics Card
    3 Year service plan
    80 Gig 5400 rpm HD
    Other stuff-
    6 USB ports
    1 Firewire
    DVI Output
    VGA output
    Media Card reader

What would be a fair price to offer?

Well, here's one on eBay going for $800

Beware of ATI cards though - Maya sometimes doesn't get a long with them well. Sometimes the work great, but be sure and do some research on the forums (both here and at places like CGTALK.com) to find out if people have had good experiences with that particular card.

Well I don't spend alot of time at home on the weekends. A laptop would give me more time to work on 3D projects.
