alpha channel in mental ray?

I go to render in mental ray and the alpha channel is not selected nor can I select it. How should I resolve this?

Render using Maya Software renderer.

MentalRay (at least the free version that comes with Maya) doesn't appear to support alpha channels.

However, there may be a work around. have you posted to CGTalk to see if anyone there knows? If not I will; let me know.

ahh, it seems that mental ray does the alpha channel automatically. Cool
