  • Coloring Gray scale photos in InDesign

If you want to change the color of a grayscale image directly in InDesign, you can PLACE the image into a frame and then select either the image itself or the frame fill (or both) to color. This works with either Tiff images or JPEGS, but the Tiff images will give you better quality images. Example attached.

You can not use InDesign to color images that have an alpha channel. (The ones that allow you to have a transparent background) Those must be colored in photoshop before you place them into inDesign.
Instructions for this are in the following threads:

You can use the EDIT ORIGINAL function of InDesign to easily go back into Photoshop and alter the color. It will then be updated in InDesign when you resave it in Photoshop.
