  • TPR Cinema Tuesday for 8/26: The Oscar Shorts for 2003

Texas Public Rasio has a event called Cinema Tuesday. It's always at the Huebner Oaks 24 @ 7:30. Visit www.tpr.org for more info. I've cut and pasted some info below, but more is availalble through the website.

How many times have you sat there watching the Academy Awards broadcast on television, and when the Short Films categories come up, you're left scratching your head, either trying to guess which one will win based on its title alone, or wishing you could actually see some of these films, somewhere?_ Well, tonight is your night!

Join us for the "Academy Award Nominated Shorts," a rare opportunity to see all of the 2002 nominated short fiction films, both live-action and animated, in one night!_ Films from around the globe will be showcased._ The animated nominees are (um, were):_ The Chubbchubbs (USA), The Cathedral (Poland), Das Rad (Germany), Mt. Head (Japan), and Mike's New Car (USA). The live action films are:_ This Charming Man (Denmark), Gridlock (Belgium), I'll Wait For the Next One (France), and Inja, aka Dog (Australia).

Combined, the total running time of the program is 91 minutes. Don't miss this show — it will likely be your only opportunity ever to see some of these films!

Texas Public Radio's Cinema Tuesdays series is winding down, so don't miss your chance to see one of these great movies on the big screen! Whether celebrating the 50th anniversary of a classic musical, or witnessing the birth of a new genre (we're talking silent films and ballet), we'll try to make each evening special, with coupons good for treats at local eateries, and door prizes, including TPR goodies, CDs, DVDs, and more! All of our Cinema Tuesdays screenings are held at AMC Huebner Oaks 24. Showtime is Tuesday at 7:30, every week!

Donations of $10 for members and $12 for non-members will get you in for these one-time only showings. To make reservations by donation in advance, use our secure form here on the website, or call 614-8977 during regular business hours. Proceeds benefit Texas Public Radio._ The series is made possible by Americus Diamond Jewelry and Basil Scaljon Oriental Rugs.

NOTE:_ This month, Twentieth Century Fox has generously donated to our prize cache multiple copies of the acclaimed film The Good Thief, starring Nick Nolte._ To find out more about the film, click on their banner below or visit www.thegoodthiefdvd.com. The DVD is available now in stores and also at each of our screenings as a door prize! Maybe you'll steal away with one!
