  • Black Patches on surface of texture on Model Problem

Heads up tip for those of you who will run into these problems.

The attachment is a lowpoly render of my ulta sexy Samoan Warrior, or as Clayton says, my self portrait.

See these black shades and patches? if you get these on your model dont panic, Its more then likely a result of patch modelling, (modelling parts of your charaters body seperate and then finalizing the model by combining all the parts to gether and merging to their corresponding vertices.)

The result of this can screw up normals, Normals which is like the inside(line spike pointing inwards) or outside(linespike pointing outwards) surface of a Polygon Face. (Normals can be viewed by going to Edit Polygons> Normals>Vertex Normals Edit Tool. The normals can be all inward or all outward, but never a mixture of both, or it will cause your texture to twist backwards and jack crap up.

Back to this black patching, what this is saying is that there is a mess of normals in your character going both ways.

TO Resolve: edit polygons> normals> set to faces
or edit polygons>normals>set vertex normals (check unlock normals)
if needed.. soften the normals after that.

Once done it takes about a minute for it to process so if it looks like Maya is locked up, just let it be it will come back again.
It's only after we've lost everything that we're free to do anything.
