  • 3D Turtle

Hey guys, I finally sat down a started doing some 3D stuff that WASN'T assigned for class and I think I've gotten to a point where I'm looking for some critique, soooo have at it.

This is far from finished so I'll be updating this thread as I go.

        good start but...

I like the design of the character, yet I don't think of a turtle

        where is the shell?

Its a good start on the model, just make sure there are alot of rings around the eyes and mouth. This helps later when creating the blendshapes of the different facial movements. One thing I like to do when modeling is grab all the faces and edit poly/normals/soften to smooth everything and get a better idea of what the smoothed version would look like. Then I go Shading/Shade options/wireframe on shaded to see all the architecture.

it doesn't have a shell. I'm thinking that the story for this character is he's constantly looking for his shell which was stolen. Eventually I'll make some other characters for him to interact with.

it's got feet now and I'm still working on the hands
there's also a smoothed version here

if there's any part you want to see closer, say so and I'll get it up ASAP

personally I think the arms and legs could be elongated and it seems a little flat around the neck but I can't tell from the angle shown.

his whole back side is pretty flat, so I'l get that rounded out after I finish his hand
I have contemplated the length of his limbs and once I get a more finished product, I'll play with how long they are, especially his legs. although I did think up a pretty interesting way for him to walk with such short legs...

here's a more finished version, if I get good crit I'll make it better, otherwise it's on to UV mapping.

It is a cool turtle, although the shoulder area seems a little strange to me. The neck, shoulder, and arms seem awkward, maybe after you round out his backside it'll feel more stable.

What up Kevin, looks pretty good man, although I'm curious as to what it would look like with bigger eye sockets and his (its) eyebrows pertruding a little further out. Otherwise, likewise to what Jackie said and I know that would make a funny animation with all the secondary motion of his head and odd walk cycle.
