that was very interesting, I notice that most story boards covey the composition of each shot but not the complete actions within the shots, Pixar on the other hand does both actions and shot placement, which would the advisable method in doing so?

Convey the action. the HBO Six Feet Under segment is not story driven; and the action is not particularly important as it is mostly a collection of images surrounding death. For your projects the action is the story; so the more action you can insert into your animatic, the better and tighter your final project will be.
