  • Light colored type looks like dots in InDesign

If you are working in spot colors in InDesign—especially if your colors are light values, you may find that when you print your pages to a black and white laser printer to proof them, that the spot colored type looks like dots.

What is happening is that the laser printer is trying to simulate the value of the color in gray and in small areas, such as letterforms, it does not have enough dots in a given area to achieve a solid letterform.

To see the type in black so you can read it just go to the Print dialog box under OUTPUT and check the TEXT AS BLACK box. (See attachment for screenshot)

If you want, you can sort of scribble on top of the black type with a colored pencil in your layout to see what the type will look like in color.(sort of)
