  • mirroring UV texturing

I was wondering if there is a way to mirror UV maps if we have a uv texture on one side that will be exactly the same as the other, instead of having to do everything all over again. thanks.

Anyone know if there is an easier way to straighten out the UVs (such as the overlapping ones) instead of having to manually move all of them?

Well, perhaps the easiest way is to simply delete half the model, texture the first half with all your UVs in place and then Polygons>Mirror Geometry.

In your UV Texture Editor, you will see little difference, but that is because the new UVs have been created for the mirrored side and they lay exactly over the old UVs. So the texture is automatically mirrored.

What do you mean by "straightening"? In most cases, you dont' want your UVs straight; you'd want them placed in such a way as to avoid stretching and pinching across the surface.

One tip on moving a lot of UVs is be sure to use the Cntrl-RMB in the UV Texture editor. If you ahve a bunch of different UV shells laying on top of each other, you can click on one UV (don't marquee around it), and then Cntrl-RMB and select To Shell. That will select all of the UVs within that border. You can then move the entire group elsewhere.
