In the past 3 days I've been modeling this. It's a Mobile Suit from one of the Gundam series. Yeah yeah, giant robot, not original, I know what you're saying. However, I'm not that good a modeler, and I'm a firm believer in the practice of forcing oneself to conform to someone else's shapes in order to improve modeling skills. I see this as a sort of warmup - I haven't done any large-scale modeling since the end of the spring semester, and I needed to psyche myself up before I try to make one of my characters and make it look horrible due to a lack of practice. Comparing it to the original picture (which can be found here), I think I got it pretty close. You may think less of me for this, but hey, like I said, it's a sort of warmup. Not to mention that it's one of my favorite Mobile Suits. Here:
(That's not supposed to look like a lightsaber. The beam sabers they have should look like energy constantly flowing out of the handle, so the "blade" should look more chaotic. However, I don't know how to do something like that in Maya (YET), so I'd have to settle with that for now).
